The 2nd harbor of Scheveningen was built around 1930. In the surrounding area many smokehouses and fishmongers settled. After the Second World War the importance of fishing gradually disappeared and the smaller vessels vanished. Since then the 2nd port was becoming more and more a recreational and tourist area. Today a lot of old harbor related buildings have been replaced by new residential buildings, shops and restaurants, attracting thousands of visitors. In 2018 this harbor will be hosting the final of the Volvo Ocean Race, a yacht race around the world held every three years. Scheveningen has a Northern and Southern beach of which the Southern is the more quiet one and which is within walking distance from the apartment. We dare to say that there is no other place in The Netherlands and maybe not even in Europe where visitors will find this unique combination of city culture and beach life on such a small surface.
